First Time Director...

This past weekend I got a very unexpected and amazing opportunity. I was asked to create a story and direct a television pilot. Because I tend to jump into things head first after a very calculated and detailed weighing of options; I took on the gig.

Because I am under contract I can not give very much detail on what the project is and who is involved (you know that NDA thing). But I can say that it is definitely one of the most exhilarating and personal evolutionary processes I have done in my most most creative life. Having produced other projects, written stories, stunts, motion capture, stage work, etc...I can easily say directing is one of the most demanding but rewarding jobs I've done.

The process of creating and defining almost every aspect of this huge puzzle that hinges on your input and control; but that also has a life of its own once released is a level of creativity I have not fully been able to achieve until recently. I've heard many stories about the pressures involved in directing and the amount of stress involved takes a toll on you after a while. My experience was one that was not any of those. The stress, the pressure, and the constant reminder of schedules, budget, timing, deadlines, etc...only helped me to zone in and focus more on my task.

Maybe it is my ability to always thrive under pressure or like the weight of a challenge. But I found it strangely calming to have the wight of an entire production on my shoulders. I will admit that this experience has and will forever change my view as an actor, producer, and even a human being. And I cannot wait to show you more!
